Cluster Hire: Five New Faculty Positions at the Faculty of Information

The Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto is advancing its academic vision through a strategic cluster hire. We are recruiting five new faculty members in the following areas: Human-Centred Data Sciences; Public Memory and Public Histories; Digital Curation and Cultural Heritage; Public AI and Cultural Institutions; and Knowledge Systems, Infrastructures, Communities, and Cultures.
Guided by the priorities of the Faculty of Information’s 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, the cluster hire effort reflects our commitment to unlocking the power of information to address humanity’s greatest challenges, and strengthening collaboration across disciplines, institutions, communities, and borders.
Cluster hiring is a strategic approach that brings multiple faculty members into roles connected by complementary areas of research and teaching. At the Faculty of Information, this hiring initiative will strengthen our scholarly leadership, support interdisciplinary research communities, and create new opportunities for impact across the information professions. As part of our commitment to fostering leadership, this strategic step supports our aim of nurturing the next generation of diverse information professionals and scholars who will shape the effective and ethical use of information in society, while expanding opportunities for our faculty to grow, collaborate and lead.
Position Details:
1. Full-time teaching stream position-Assistant Professor in Human-Centred Data Sciences. The application deadline was September 4, 2025.
2. Full-time tenure stream position-Associate Professor in Public Memory & Public Histories. The application deadline is September 8, 2025.
3. Full-time tenure stream position in Digital Curation and Cultural Heritage-Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The application deadline is September 8, 2025.
4. Full-time tenure stream position-Assistant Professor in Public AI and Cultural Institutions. The application deadline is September 10, 2025.
5. Full-time tenure stream position-Assistant Professor in Knowledge Systems, Infrastructures, Communities, and Cultures. The application deadline is October 7, 2025.
“These are outstanding faculty positions, created through a cluster hire designed to address pressing challenges at the intersections of culture, creativity, human rights and aspirations, laws and regulations, policies, and advanced information systems and technologies. We are looking forward to welcoming five new faculty members who will contribute to this important work,” said Javed Mostafa, Dean of the Faculty of Information.
